Bored of Water? 12 Ways to drink more.

It may seem like a preachy sermon from the health obsessed, but we all know that water has its virtues.

From detoxing our bodies to clearing our skin, giving us energy and making everything work just better, water really is a gift.

We’re here to tell you that you need to drink more. There’s no strict rule on how much water you should drink.  Eight to ten glasses is a good start, but if you’re exercising, and it’s hot, you do need to drink more.  Our bodies are made up of between 50 and 70 per cent water, so we’ve got to drink it.   Some of us struggle to drink our eight to ten glasses as we find drinking water ‘boring’.

So how do we reach for a glass of cool refreshing water and not the fruit juice or soft-drink when we’re thirsty?

There are plenty of ways we can change up our water to encourage us to drink more.

  1. Inject some herbs. Add your favourite herbs.  Basil and Mist are quite refreshing.
  2. Dunk a tea bag. A homemade iced tea is sugar free and tastes great. Lemongrass, ginger or chamomile – or whatever takes your fancy.
  3. Go green. Slice up your favourite greens like cucumber and celery and pop into a water jug.
  4. Superfy your water. Freeze coconut water into ice-cube trays and let them melt in your glass of water.
  5. Add some spice. A pinch of cayenne pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice will kick your metabolism up a notch and get you buzzing for the day.
  6. Turn your water into The Hulk. Add a pinch of spirulina powder in your water.
  7. Get a hydration coach. Nominate one of your besties or someone in your workplace to serve as your water trainer.
  8. Have a glass of water at each transitional part of your day. When you roll out of bed, before you leave the house or when you get to work.
  9. Eat something. Cucumber and celery both have a high water content.
  10. Use your phone. There is an app called Waterlogged which can help you track your water consumption.  A few alerts can help you up your water intake during the day.
  11. Come prepared. Bring a two-litre drink bottle to work and aim to finish it by the end of the day.
  12. Start your day on the right note. Drink two big glasses of water on waking, with a dash of apple cider vinegar or a slice of alkalising lemon.
